what to do when you don’t have the right person to delegate work to

You need to delegate a project but no one on your team is precisely equipped to handle it. But the work needs to get done, and you don’t have time (or skills) to do it yourself. How do you proceed?

Over at Intuit QuickBase’s Fast Track blog today, I talk about six important questions to ask yourself when you don’t have the right person to delegate work to. You can read it here.

:-( I’ve done that. I’m told I don’t have to double check the work, just make sure it’s done right, but there’s only so much you can ensure is correct that way (like I can tell it’s a tea pot and that it pours a hot liquid, but I don’t know that an email was sent to the delegatee last week asking for the tea pot to be green). When we deliver a yellow tea pot, I’m asked if I checked the work.
