housekeeping update

The work on the site is (hopefully) complete, and comments are turned back on. Thanks for your patience the last few days as we ran into some bumps with a server migration.

There seems to be a bug in mobile still. The layout is weird across browsers (Safari, Chrome, and Firefox on iOS), with the menu stacked vertically and right-aligned. I have to scroll past all that to get to content.

I too was wondering if the vertical, right aligned menu and the permanently present search magnifying glass were planned that way

Nope, needs to be fixed! I’m also seeing that you can’t reply to comments, only post top-level ones, so that will go on the list to fix too. (I can do it because I’m logged in but I don’t think anyone else can.)

That explains why the website kept asking me if I was human before it would let me in. I like the new look.

Re the collapse thread button being gone (pixel 8a chrome), might it be related to not being allowed to reply?

*ahem* Now the layout’s changed and I don’t like it. Not for any good reason, but because I wasn’t personally consulted as a stakeholder and I am going to make my bruised ego everyone else’s problem to manage.

    Did I do it right?

I’m sorry you’ve had a rough time with this migration, Alison – thank you for all that you do to make your content as accessible as possible to as many people as possible! Now, please go do something nice for yourself – you deserve it!

Hi Alison, on my browser, the “reply” function isn’t working, even though I can post comments as usual. For context I use a browser called Ecosia, but I checked on Chrome and it doesn’t work there, either. Best of luck on what I’m sure is/was a huge undertaking.
